Grand Prismatic Spring Grand Prismatic Spring (from Fairy Falls Trail) Orientation Map

Located at the heart of the Midway Geyser Basin, Yellowstone's Grand Prismatic Spring is an amazing hot spring full of color that illuminates its steam to blue and green as it rises from the surface of the water. As the 3rd largest hot spring in the world, Grand Prismatic measures approximately 220 x 300 feet and 120 feet deep. The boardwalk takes you up close to the spring as it crosses over large sections of the spring's bright orange and yellow runoff channels. To catch a glimpse of Grand Prismatic from a higher view point, take the Fairy Falls hiking trail located down the road just south of Midway Geyser Basin. The trail will lead you behind the Midway Geyser Basin. Climb up one of the big hills that rise up to your left to get a birds-eye view of the hot spring. There is not an established trail up the hill but there are distinguishable paths that people have frequented over the years.
