Camping in Yellowstone
Camping in bear country: Also remember that Yellowstone is bear country. Never put food or other odorous items such as toothpaste, deodorant, sunscreen, etc. in your tent with you or left out unattended. Please keep all food and odorous items securely stowed in your vehicle when you are not using them. Bear boxes may also be available for you to secure your food and other items. Dispose of trash promptly and properly in bear-proof trash cans. These proper camping practices are put in place to help ensure your safety and make your camping trip a more pleasant experience. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated by the National Park Service and your fellow visitors. If you aren't sure if you have everything you need, check out these Camping Supplies to see if there is anything you might need for your Yellowstone camping trip.
Be the early bird: Because of the first come first serve basis at the 7 National Park Service campgrounds within the park, there may not be sites available in the first campground you choose. To increase your chances of securing your ideal campsite, arrive in the morning well before noon to begin searching for a site.
Important: All of the seasonal opening and closing dates for the campgrounds are weather dependent. Unexpected storms and lingering weather conditions may require specific campgrounds to remain closed longer into the spring and summer or close earlier in the fall. Please call to ensure that your plans to camp have not been affected by the weather.
