I began my adventure with Yellowstone National Park when I was 15 years old on a family vacation one summer.  I was so captivated by the wildness and beauty of the park that I had to ask a park ranger how I could work in Yellowstone.  The park ranger told me about an opportunity with the Youth Conservation Corp which is a program for teenagers that offers them a chance to spend a summer working in Yellowstone’s backcountry, front country, and everything in between.  I spent 2 summers during high school with the Youth Conservation Corp, and the experience changed my life.  After those two summers, I knew that one day I wanted to live near the park when I got older.

Several years, and many life experiences later, fate had me asking questions about my future, and I began to look at my open window to return to Yellowstone in my adult life.  In December of 2009, I was back in Yellowstone, working in the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel for my first Yellowstone winter.  After spending many enjoyable seasons working in the park, I moved to a small town on the west boundary of Yellowstone called West Yellowstone, Montana, where I currently live with my beautiful and amazing wife Gabriela.  Being right on the west border to Yellowstone allows us to go into the park on a regular basis and I still very much enjoy going back to the same places in the park that I have been visiting since I was 15.

Ethan Confer

Ethan Confer is a freelance photographer who skillfully renders people, wildlife, landscape, cityscapes and moments into a unique style that defies a singular label. His work encompasses fine art, advertising, documentary, and lifestyle photography, all of which are informed by years of formal training, hands-on experience and a variety of wonderful, thought-provoking mentors.

Examining his work, it appears that Ethan has packed a lifetime of photographic experience into his brief twenty-five years of existence. From the majestic sweep of Yosemite Valley to the smoldering environs of Yellowstone and on to the cities and villages of Italy and France, Ethan captures people, places and moments with an eye toward rendering a photographic truth and beauty that is unique to someone so young.

Like any artist's tool, Ethan's photographic eye will constantly reset, seeking ways to see the world anew through his camera's lens and his mind's eye. But Ethan will always look toward his environment and the company he keeps to maintain a fresh visual approach that will continue to make his photographic work unique.

I have spent the last 4 years living and learning in Yellowstone National Park. I have found a love for photography in those rare moments where you are a part of something greater than yourself. Those moments that you realize that there is life in the splendor of taking the unbeaten path. Those moments that you are able to see the beauty in something that is beyond your own making. I have found my heart and soul in this park, and hope you enjoy the view from my eyes, in my pictures.
