Campgrounds in this region
The Norris Campground is almost in the center of the Grand Loop Road and makes a good jumping off point to get to Mammoth Village to the north, Old Faithful Village to the south, and Canyon Village to the east. Speaking of good location, the Norris Geyser Basin (one of the main attractions in the park) is less than a mile and a half away. You can choose to either drive or take the short hiking trail that begins across the road from the campground and leads you right to Norris Geyser Basin.
Also here at the Norris Campground is the Gibbon River which flows peacefully through an open expanse of grassy meadows and is inviting to fishermen as well as campers who want to take a cool dip after a fun-filled day of activities. Keep your eyes peeled while looking out over the meadow because you might be visited by one or more of the local bison who also enjoy hanging out by the Gibbon River in the summer. The historical building that is currently used as the Museum of the National Park Ranger is located at the campground entrance, it's free and worth the visit. Campsites are mostly shaded with some campsites being out in the open. All sites have a picnic table and fire ring. The trailhead for the Solfatara Creek hiking trail begins towards the back of the campground. |
