Vistor Centers & Museums
The Old Faithful Visitor Education Center is a new state-of-the-art facility that opened in the Old Faithful area in August of 2010. Visitors can get an in depth look at Yellowstone's four types of thermal features as well as the magma chamber beneath Yellowstone that provides the heat for Yellowstone's geysers, hotsprings, mudpots and fumaroles. Educational tools such as interactive displays and videos will educate you about the thermal features, giving you a better appreciation for their magnificence as you visit the geyser basins around the park. Children will enjoy the "Young Scientist" section of the visitor center where they can have fun with educational tools and displays right at their fingertips. Short informational movies about Yellowstone are also featured in the auditorium of the vistior center which are shown on a regular basis during the hours that the visitor center is open.
Park rangers at the information desk of the Old Faithful Visitor Education Center are eager to answer any questions that you may have about the Old Faithful area or general questions about the park. They also predict eruption times for five major geysers in the Upper Geyser Basin: Old Faithful, Grand, Castle, Daisy and Riverside geysers; and they predict one geyser on the Firehole Lake Drive: Great Fountain Geyser. Stop by the Yellowstone Association Bookstore inside the visitor center and pick up a book, poster, DVD, or other souvenirs for yourself or as a gift for someone back home. |
